The National Center for Korean Traditional Performing Arts traces its roots all
the way back to the Eumseongseo, the Silla Dynasty's Royal Institute of Music,
over fourteen hundreds years ago.
This NCKTPA continues to honor the mandate to preserve the numerous art
works that have originated from Korea during its history of five thousand years,
as well as many East Asian art traditions that deeply reflect the spirit of
Confucianism, Buddhism, and Zen. Additionally, we actively promote and
support creation and recreation of many contemporary art works, some of which
will become the traditional arts of tommorrow.
During the last century, mankind endured a hundred years at strife tainted by
wars, oppression, and contention. To this day, the world has not still yet freed
itself completely from inhumane acts and situations. However, we have not
forgotten the dream of world peace. It is our responsibility, along with all
mankind, to reclaim our essentially decent human nature, to respect dignity,
to understand each other, and to create the world full of beauty and love.
The National Center for Korean Traditional Performing Arts will continue to
creatively inherit and cultivate, traditonal performing art forms filled with the
philosophy of the pure Korean art tradition - a belief that we must strive for the
peaceful life which could be achieved in the world without war, prejudice,
or pollution - where heaven, earth, mankind, and all creatures harmonize.
In addition, promoting the arts of our own country, we are committed to support
other cultural arts of the world. To this end, we will put the best effort to satisfy
humankind's eternal desire for happiness and to Eachieve an open global community.
We appreciate your concern and truly value your cultural arts.
