Susimga/Yeokgeumsusimga
Susimga is a representative folk song of Pyeongan Province. As to the origin of the song, two views exist: One is that it was created by a famous female entertainer Buyong of Seongcheon during the Manchu War of 1636; the other is that it was created to complain about the royal court`s practice of not employing people from the Gwanseo and Gwanbuk regions at government posts during the Joseon period. However, neither view is confirmed. The text mainly laments the emptiness of life, and the music sounds sad due to the frequent appearance of high pitches and wide vibrations. Susimga is followed by Yeokkeumsusimga, which is sung in a fast tempo. The text of Yeokkeumsusimga mainly describes the painful feelings of missing and waiting for one`s love.
