Baettaragi/Jajinbaettaragi
Baettaragi is a Pyeongan Province folk song. It is assumed to be firshy performed in the late Joseon Dynasty. In the past, each coastal region had its own version of Baettaragi, but today Baettaragi of Pyeongan Province is the most popular. The text narrates difficulties of a fisherman`s life and is followed by Jajinbaettaragi which has a faster tempo. Jajinbaettaragi describes the joy of returning from the sea and playing a drum to celebrate the big catch. Characteristically, Baettaragi is feminine, static, and sad while Jajinbaettaragi is masculine, active, and bright.
