Korean Operetta "Hwang Jini" is based on folk songs of Gyeonggi, Hwanhae and Pyeongan Province, which is popular in the Greater Seoul Metropolitan Area. It also encompasses the whole spectrum of Korean culture, including proper music (court and literary music of the Joseon dynasty), folk vocal music, folk dance, buddhist dance, court dance, traditional plays, poems, calligraphy, and paintings..
